One of the biggest milestones for the breed this year was Monty, the 5-year-old Giant Schnauzer, taking home the prestigious Best in Show title at the 149th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on February 11, 2025. Handled by Katie Bernardin, Monty triumphed over 2,500 competitors, proving that Schnauzers are not only striking in appearance but also excel in the ring. His historic win has turned the spotlight on the breed, increasing demand and admiration for Schnauzers nationwide.

From Winning Dog Shows to Going Viral on Social Media, Why is the Schnauzer Breed So Popular?

Several factors are contributing to the breed’s growing appeal:

  • Versatility: Historically, Schnauzers have been farm dogs, military dogs in both World War I & II, dispatch carriers, and even police dogs, showcasing their intelligence and adaptability.

  • Distinctive Appearance: Their iconic beards and expressive eyebrows make them instantly recognizable (and perfect for photos!).

  • Loyal & Smart: Schnauzers are fiercely loyal, highly trainable, and full of personality—making them ideal companions for families and individuals alike.

  • Social Media-Worthy: With their big personalities, it’s no surprise Schnauzers thrive as pet influencers, drawing millions of views and engagement online.

Giant schnauzers are completely left out of all the fanfare. Except for Monty, all the pictures are of rodents. And yes, I do consider all small dogs rodents. Not a standard to be seen even. So what about us big boy/girl owners/ fans?
